Our Founders

Founded by two visionary women, who embody the spirit of resilience and passion, our brand is a celebration of real women and their diversity.


  • Washington D.C.

    Born and raised in the US, Alpa finds ways to honor her Indian heritage in all design aspects. Inspired by her mother, she was invested in South Asian styles from a young age, eager to use fashion as a medium to connect back to her roots. Frustrated by the lack of accessibility and quality available to the diaspora, she co-founded Silai with a mission to change the industry.

  • Surat, Gujurat

    Born and raised in India, Shweta has had a deep appreciation for fine heritage fashion since her childhood, when she would custom design her outfits with her mother. Now a new mom, Shweta’s hands are the first to touch your clothes. She oversees our studio and team of skilled artisans in Surat.

Our Practice

By collaborating with Indian artisans, we preserve the authenticity of our designs and also contribute to the sustainability of the fashion industry. We prioritize a mindful approach to production, avoiding mass manufacturing in favor of creating timeless pieces that align with our brand's commitment to ethical practices.
